Carlocito. The Love Story

When he hears his humans planning to castrate him, Carlocito, a pet burdened with an awareness we don't ordinarily associate with cats, runs away from home. After having survived the inclemency of the outside world, he returns home to find his mistress desperately ill, and we see her through his eyes -"He carried me upstairs to Jaydah's room and lay me gently on her bed. She was sleeping the way only Jaydah could sleep, sprawled and oblivious. Her eyes had dark circles under them, and her thick dark hair was oily and stringy. The top of the nightstand was cluttered with medicine bottles, and the odor of alcohol burned my nostrils. I imagined that death would smell like this." A story of love and triumph, and perhaps proof that honor and loyalty exist, even among pets.
